How Does Funding Work?

Funding

Funding amounts depend on the student’s educational setting for the 2026–27 school year.

Private School Students

Students attending an approved private school or a pre-K or kindergarten program receive 85% of the statewide average public school funding.

  • Award amount: $10,474 (set by TEA for 2026–27)

Private School Students with a Disability

Students with a disability enrolled in an approved private school or pre-K/kindergarten program may receive up to $30,000.

  • Must have an IEP on file with TEA

  • Award amount is based on the funding the public school district would receive to provide services under the IEP

Common Qualifying Disabilities

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • Specific Learning Disabilities

    • Dyslexia

    • Dysgraphia

    • Dyscalculia

  • Speech or Language Impairment

  • Hearing Impairment or Deafness

  • Visual Impairment

  • Intellectual Disability

  • Emotional Disturbance

  • Orthopedic Impairment

  • Other Health Impairment

    • ADHD (when it substantially affects learning)

    • Epilepsy

    • Chronic health conditions

  • Traumatic Brain Injury

  • Multiple Disabilities

All Other Participating Students

Students who are homeschooled or not enrolled in private school or pre-K/kindergarten may receive:
