What is TEFA?

In 2025, the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 2, creating the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program with $1 billion in funding. The program gives parents more flexibility to choose educational options outside the public school system, including private schools and homeschooling.

TEFA is administered by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and is expected to be the largest school choice program launched in the nation.
